Elizabeth Gamache

Colorado Artist

When I'm not arguing with computers in my day job as an IT professional in education, Colorado’s wilderness inspires my artwork. Through acrylic paintings, I capture nature’s beauty—from colorful sunsets to wild animals—using bold strokes and vibrant colors.

I love painting with acrylics on different surfaces, snowboards, barnwood, canvas, but lately, I’ve explored reverse painting on glass. This is a challenging technique that requires working backward with layered colors, pushing me to grow as an artist. This medium truly tests a person’s patience and sanity with its unique hazards: shattered glass, fingerprints appearing out of nowhere on supposedly clean surfaces, and the special joy of realizing your layers are messed up. Despite the occasional bandaged finger and muttered curses, the stunning results make the artistic obstacle course worthwhile.

Inspiration strikes while I’m gasping for air on trail runs or mountain bike rides through Colorado’s breathtaking landscapes. Turns out, nothing sparks creativity quite like oxygen deprivation at 11,000 feet—or getting the wind knocked out of you or a cactus in your shoe. I also love photography and being creative with different outlets, constantly finding new ways to interpret and capture the extraordinary beauty of the natural world.

 The Home Team

I’m thankful for my incredibly patient husband, Pierre, who heroically tolerates both my ever-expanding art supply collection (always hauling something home) and the mysterious paint splatters that appear on every surface. I have three wonderful daughters. We also are hosting a Foreign Exchange student from Bangladesh and I highly encourage this opportunity to others, it is a great experience.

 Where to Find My Work

  • Buena Vista: BV Photo and Art

Fun Facts That Make Me More Interesting at Parties

  • I built a hobbit hole in my yard.

  • I play the violin—though my mountain bike falls more gracefully than my bow hand.

  • It is apparent I have a talent for throwing heavy objects:

    • Won the Strongest Woman competition in Lake City by throwing timber logs, Won Southern CO Badass by throwing cinderblocks and running, Won two Festivus Games by throwing weights.

  • I’m constantly covered in either paint, trail dust, or both.

  • I teach Paint n Sips in Fremont County, check my website for classes.

2025 Goals (Or “Things I’ll Probably Be Apologizing for Not Completing in 2026”)

  • Try oil painting, which will really test my patience.

  • Create more personal art and finally complete my art studio.

  • Learn to paint people—I’m excited to do a live wedding painting in June!

  • Return to trail running and mountain biking endurance races and cry when I make the cutoff time with seconds to spare.
